Levels of proficiency
From very basic to advanced, our programs follow the
Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
- ELEMENTARY USER
A1 level
Achieve a basic level of proficiency allowing you to understand and use common daily expressions in the present tense.
Introduce yourself, ask and answer simple questions about personal matters, and express likes and dislikes.
A2 level
Communicate with simple and commonly used sentences, perform routine tasks such as describing objects, making a purchase and discussing familiar topics.
Relate past events and talk about future projects.
- INDEPENDENT USER
B1 and B2 level
Understand the main points of clear standard comments of familiar matters regularly encountered at work, school, leisure, etc.
Present your resume, express feelings, relate events, negociate and give opinions.
- PROFICIENT USER
C1 and C2
You are quite functional in the language and, therefore, can choose to build your knowledge by enrolling in courses
that meet specific needs and help you achieve precise linguitic objectives, depending on your interests.

ONLINE PLACEMENT TEST
This free placement test is a way for us to better understand your strengths and needs, so as
to recommend the course best adapted to your current level.
In order to ensure a more accurate placement, this placement test will be followed by
a quick interview with a French instructor who will recommend a class.

EVALUATION
L'Alliance Française d'Halifax is a center of examination for official, internationally recognized, certifications,such
as the DELF-DALF.
Reasons for Taking Examinations
Candidates may take the DELF, DELF scolaire and DALF to:
- obtain international recognition of French language competency
- be assessed on same international language standards as candidates in 154 countries
- to certify French language achievements
- to continue studies at a French university
- to work in France
- to enrich a résumé
- to gain new responsibilities or get promoted in a job
- to complement language education with a universally recognized diploma.
