Alliance Française Ottawa

The Alliance française Ottawa is opening a French Book Club!

Every first Saturday of the month, from 11:30am until 1pm at the Alliance française Ottawa

Do you enjoy reading ? Are you learning French or are you a French speaker ? Discover a new Francophone writer – classic or contemporary – through a reading and a discussion around themes suggested by Solène, one of our French teachers.

10 $ per session, free for members and students (B1 French level advised)

For the first session, we invite you to discover the collection of short stories RU by Kim Thúy, a Quebec writer born in Vietnam.

Ru. In Vietnamese it means lullaby; in French it is a small stream, but also signifies a flow–of tears, blood, money. In vignettes of exquisite clarity, sharp observation and sly wit, we are carried along on an unforgettable journey from a palatial residence in Saigon to a crowded and muddy Malaysian refugee camp, and onward to a new life in Quebec. There, the young girl feels the embrace of a new community, and revels in the chance to be part of the American Dream.
