Cette exposition présente les travaux de trois calligraphes de culture différente : l’une œuvre en calligraphie latine, un deuxième en calligraphie chinoise et, enfin, un troisième en calligraphie arabe. Trois expressions qui relèvent des mêmes préoccupations : donner au langage écrit traditionnel une expression artistique où vont se côtoyer émotion, rêve, douleur, réflexion, transformer ces langages connus de tous en un nouveau langage, créer une nouvelle image du signe. Que le caractère soit latin, chinois ou arabe, il porte en lui un vaste potentiel autre que les fonctions informatives et éducatrices pour lesquelles il a été créé. Les trois exposants s’amusent à le «tordre» dans tous les sens pour en explorer toutes les possibilités et en faire une image picturale à part entière.

This exhibition presents the work of three calligraphers from different cultures: one works in Latin calligraphy, the second in Chinese, and the third in Arab. All three expressions share a common purpose: to give traditional written language an artistic expression where emotion, dreams, pain and thought mingle, to transform these common languages into a new language, to create a new image for the sign. Whether the character is in Latin, Chinese or Arab, it carries vast potential in addition to the informational and educational functions for which it was created. The three exhibitors enjoy “twisting” the character in every direction to explore all its possibilities and to create a pictoral image in its own right.

Burhan Zahra’i

Burhan Zahra'i was born in 1963 in Qatar. He has a Bachelor degree in Art (Sculpture) from Concordia University in Quebec, Canada.

Yannick Durand Calligrapher since 1985, after studies at Toulouse fine-arts school (France). In Montéal since 1991, I work for publicity, design studio, I tough calligraphy in Concordia and Université de Montréal universities, Saydie Brofman center, typography at Collège Salette. I open my own studio in 2001 where I teach, do my contrats. I do a lot of exhibitions: France, Belgium, Canada, Roumanie with contemporary calligraphy which is very important artistic side and evolution of latine traditionnal calligraphy.
