A propos de l'exposition

Le travail photographique Résistance est une étude commémorative du corps à travers le temps. Le sujet photographié étant un vétéran, il est en lien direct avec l’histoire, la mémoire collective. L’œuvre célèbre à la fois l’individu et son histoire.
En associant une photographie d'archive, permettant d'identifier le sujet tel qu'il était et une photographie contemporaine d'une partie de lui-même, dans un format qui nous amène à prendre du recul pour en apprécier le contenu, l'acte de s'approcher (pour identifier le personnage) et de reculer (pour qu'au travers du grand format, en observer l'effet du temps sur celui-ci), devient un processus circulaire présent, passé, présent...

A propos de l'artiste

Né en France en 1972. Il commence à photographier lors d’un séjour au Sénégal (1995/97). A son retour, il s’installe à Londres, iltravaille de nuit (et ilphotographie peu). Il part en Indonésie. Il y réalise une série sur l’île de Java et Bali. Quelques mois, plus tard, il s’installe sur l’île de La Réunion dans l’océan Indien, réel compromis entre l’Afrique et l’Asie. Il y restera pendant 8 ans. Il prend conscience à ce moment de la photographie comme moyen d’expression. Le Secours Populaire sollicite sontravail photographique dans le domaine associatif. Il s’intéresse également aux thèmes des rites et croyances. Une immersion dans le monde du handicap leconduit à la réalisation d’une série d’épreuves argentiques sur le thème de l’art thérapie, avec un groupe d’enfants atteints de poly-handicaps moteurs et cérébraux. Ces photographies seront sélectionnées pour les VIèmes rencontres africaines de la photographie de Bamako et exposées au musée national. Cette biennale sera le début d’une série d’expositions, à Paris, Arles, Tananarive et St Denis de La Réunion, sur les thématiques rejoignant l’homme, ses croyances, et son identité. En 2008, il bénéficie d'une bourse pour venir se perfectionner en photographie au collège Marsan de Montréal. Il remporte le deuxième prix en photographie au concours Rodeo 2008 de la CAPIC, l'association canadienne des photographes et illustrateurs en communication .

About the exhibition

The photographic work “Resistance” is a commemorative study of the body through time. The photographed subject being a veteran, it is in direct link with the history, the collective memory. The work celebrates at once the person and its history.
By associating a photography of archives, allowing to identify the subject such as he was and a contemporary photography of a part of himself, in a size which brings us to stand back to estimate the contents, the act to approach and to put off, becomes a circular present, past, present process...

About the artist

He was born in France in 1972. He begins his first camera in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, where helived from 1995 to 1997. After Senegal, he went to London and worked there until 2000. Later, he moved to Reunion which is an island in the Indian Ocean. In Reunion, he started working for a charity organization called Secours Populaire and he becames interested in themes related to rituals and beliefs. He had the chance to work in close contact with the handicapped community which resulted in a series of silver emulsion prints. The theme was art therapy for a group of multi-handicapped children. This work became the beginning of participation for collective exhibitions in Bamako, Paris, Arles, Tananarive with the main subjects being man, beliefs and identity. In 2008, he received a scholarship for studying photography in College Marsan in Montreal. Recently, he won the second prize in photography at the Rodeo contest of CAPIC, the Canadian Association of Photographers and Illustrators in Communication. Currently, he is living and working in Montreal.
