How to registerRules and regulations at Alliance Française Ottawa


All new students must take a free 15 minutes complementary placement test so that we can place you at the appropriate level and offer you a training that matches your objectives.

To take a placement test, you can come in person at Alliance Française (352, MacLaren St., Ottawa – at the corner

of Bank & MacLaren) or do it over the phone.

In each case, you have to book an appointment by calling 613-234-9470 ext.221 or writing an email to :

The registration period begins 3 weeks before the starting date of the course.
Please note: registration closing date will be 72 hours prior to the course.
Other students will be put on a waiting list.



  • All new students: $20.00 yearly administrative fee due at time of registration.
  • Once processed, registration is final. Exception: medical emergency supported by documentary evidence (i.e. hospital note).
  • Payment in full required before 1st lesson.  No refund will be granted unless a course is cancelled by AFO.
  • Employer-financed: Payment required within 30 days of reception of invoice.


  • Visa, Mastercard, cheque, debit/interac, direct deposit, cash, mail order. Please make cheque payable to AFRCNC or Alliance Française de la Région de la Capitale Nationale du Canada.
  • A $25 fee will be charged for «non-sufficient funds» cheques.


  • AFO reserves the right to cancel any course or reduce the number of instructional hours of any given course (group courses: insufficient enrollment).
  • In the event that a group course is cancelled, AFO will offer students different options: a) Transferring to another class, b) store credit note, c) A full refund.


  • NO REFUND will be granted unless a course is cancelled by AFO.


  • Credit notes may be granted to a student who wishes to withdraw from a class ONLY when he/she provides AFO with WRITTEN NOTICE of his/her intent to withdraw WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK OF THE GROUP CLASS SESSION.
  • Please note that absence from class does not constitute notice of withdrawal.
  • Store credit notes are valid for a period not exceeding 1 year from the date the credit note was issued.
  • Credit notes will be processed based on the number of remaining hours in the course once written notice of intent to withdraw is received by AFO.
  • A $20 administration fee will automatically be deducted from the value of the credit note.
  • Students are not entitled to a credit for a class where a previous credit was used as full or partial payment of course fees.
  • Credit notes are non-transferable & non-refundable.


  •  Training fees are tax deductible according to Canada Revenue Agency; a tax receipt will be issued by AFO at the end of the year.


  • Parking is strictly reserved for AFO’s staff. No student parking allowed.
