FALL 2 SESSION PROGRAM

Alliance Française Ottawa offers 5 French workshops to help you put your French skills into practice and gain confidence:

TCF Workshop – Exam Preparation

8 hours of training • 2 hours per week

Minimum required level: B1.3 completed

This workshop is designed for learners who wish to prepare effectively for the Test de Connaissance du Français (TCF). This is not a language-learning course: the goal is to understand the exam format, become familiar with its requirements, and practice each section strategically.

Throughout the sessions, participants will work with guidance on the strategies, question types, and technical skills needed to succeed in every part of the TCF.

 

Workshop Objectives

Understand the exam format

· Discover the full structure of the TCF.

· Review instructions, exam mechanics, and evaluation criteria.

· Identify the skills that are actually assessed.

Practice the comprehension sections

· Listening comprehension

· Reading comprehension

Written Expression

· Understand the expectations of the three tasks.

· Organize ideas clearly.

· Write concisely and efficiently while respecting all instructions.

Oral Expression

· Structure a clear and appropriate response for each task.

· Use strategies to maintain fluency and clarity.

· Build confidence for the interview with the examiner.

 

An Expertly Designed Workshop

This workshop uses pedagogical material created by Alliance Française de Moncton, based on official TCF preparation resources to ensure a faithful and effective training experience. The course is taught by a certified TCF examiner, fully familiar with the test’s expectations and evaluation criteria.

FRENCH GRAMMAR French workshops

The Grammar B1 – intermediate level workshop offers you different themes per session to allow you to practice certain grammatical points.

Objectives:

  • Work on topical themes and authentic documents
  • Reinforce knowledge of French grammar
  • Improve writing skills

New students must take the orientation test.


Oral (FRENCH speaking)

ORAL A2

The workshop program is based on themes from everyday life, different each session, to help students improve their oral skills by enriching their lexicon. Discussions will focus on simple everyday communication situations to encourage oral exchanges between students.

Objectives:

  • Acquire fluency in everyday conversation
  • Develop oral expression skills
  • Enrich vocabulary

ORAL B1

The workshop program is based on the study of authentic documents on a variety of themes, to work on oral production and listening comprehension. Discussions will focus on everyday themes, different each session, to encourage oral exchanges between students.

Objectives:

  • Acquire fluency in everyday conversation
  • Develop the ability to express oneself orally on a variety of topics
  • Enrich vocabulary
  • Practice understanding and discussing French-language audiovisual programs (commercials, series, etc.)

New students must take the orientation test.

ORAL B2

The Oral B2 workshop offers a program based on the study of authentic documents to work on oral production and listening comprehension. Discussions will focus on everyday themes, different each session, to encourage oral exchanges between students.

Objectives:

  • Acquire fluency in conversation on a variety of everyday topics
  • Develop the ability to express oneself orally by tackling a variety of themes and debating topical issues.
  • Enrich and deepen vocabulary
  • Understand and discuss French-language audiovisual programs (commercials, series, etc.)

New students must take the orientation test.

Alliance Française Ottawa follows the European framework for Languages, also called CEFR, adopted by the European Commission and all around the world. Your progression is therefore supervised, following official and recognised norms.

The CEFR describes foreign language proficiency in reading, listening, speaking and writing from beginner to the more advanced level: A1/A2, B1/B2, C1 and C2.

How to enroll?

“A1.1 level classes are designed for new students who have never studied French before and have no knowledge of the French language.”

  • New student at AF Ottawa? Take the orientation test in order to assess your level in listening, reading, grammar, and vocabulary.

To complete your orientation test:

You will have an orientation interview with one of our French as a second language teachers via MS Teams, by choosing an appointment date on the calendar at the end of the test to complete the assessment of your level.
