Preparation for SLE – Oral language assessment – Level B or C

In order to keep all our students and teachers safe, our Government French language training “Oral language assessment – Level B or C” (SLE – Test of oral proficiency) takes place ONLINE on ZOOM until further notice.

This online group course prepares you to achieve the B or C levels of the test of oral proficiency for the government of Canada and focuses on five key components of the oral test: oral comprehension, conversation, oral production, communication strategies, and language accuracy.

This online preparation course is based on activities that are consistent with those found on the official tests.



Did you have attempted this exam before without success? We can provide you with tips and methods that will help you overcome any obstacles you may have encountered in the past.

Required level in French to register for the Oral language assessment preparation (SLE test of oral proficiency):

B1.2 for oral B and B1.6 level for oral C.

New students must take the Evalang orientation test to assess their level.

Alliance Française Ottawa follows the European framework for Languages, also called CEFR, adopted by the European Commission and all around the world. Your progression is therefore supervised, following official and recognised norms.

The CEFR describes foreign language proficiency in reading, listening, speaking and writing from beginner to the more advanced level: A1/A2, B1/B2, C1 and C2.

“A1.1 level classes are designed for new students who have never studied French before and have no knowledge of the French language.”

To complete your test Evalang:

You will have an orientation interview with one of our French as a second language teachers, in person at our location or by phone, to complete your level assessment.
