Are you interested in registering for our classes? Alliance Française Ottawa offers an assessment test to assess your exact level to join the right class. This tool was designed by the Alliance Française of La Haye, an organization recognized across the world.

No test is required at Alliance Française Ottawa if you are a complete beginner. If so, please register online for level A1.1. A1.1 level classes are designed for new students who have never studied French before and have no knowledge of the French language.

This test is aligned with the proficiency 6 skills levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) of the CEFRL (also known as Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

PROS OF THIS ASSESSMENT TEST

  • 100% online
  • Can be taken of any kind of device (PC, Mac, tablet, smartphone)
  • The results are valid for 6 months in Alliance Française Ottawa’s registration process
  • Maximum duration of the test: 30-45 minutes
  • Being able to know exactly what level you have in French will allow you to understand what kind of training or class you need to make progress. For example, you might have great oral comprehension skills, but you may need to improve your grammar skills.

EVALUATION METHODS

  • An online test with a progressive difficulty as you go along (from A1 level to the B2 level)
  • Followed by an oral assessment on MS Teams with one of our teachers: you will be able to book an appointment on the last page of the online test.

HOW TO PROCEED

  • STEP 1: Buy your test. Click on the «BUY» button to be redirected to the Alliance française d’Ottawa online shop.
  • STEP 2: Check your email. After buying the test, the link to the test will be sent with the receipt from your purchase. This may take a couple of minutes. Make sure to check your junk mail inbox!
  • STEP 3: Congratulations! You are now ready to take the test!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who can take this assessment test?
Everyone can take this test, from complete beginners to advanced students. There is no need to be a student at the Alliance Française of Ottawa or to have previously taken classes to take this test. This online test is available for everyone.

Can I take this test multiple times?
Once you have completed the test you purchased, you can’t take it again. After taking the test, the personal link will expire. However, you are free to buy another test. This could be useful if you want to review your progress from one session to another or if you haven’t taken any classes in the last 6 months.

Do I have to talk to anyone or contact someone at Alliance Française Ottawa to take the test?
Absolutely not. You can take the test on your own. No assistance is required. You just must follow the steps mentioned above.
